Gloria D. Pickar, R.N., Ed.D., is President and Chief Academic Officer of Compass Knowledge Group in Orlando, Florida. She is a former Academic Dean at Seminole State College in Sanford, Florida. She is also the author of nine editions of best-selling DOSAGE CALCULATIONS.

Amy Pickar Abernethy, MD, is Associate Professor of Medicine and Nursing at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

I learned how to do dosage calculations from this book

I am not very good at math, but this book has helped me during Nursing School. It has step by step rules on how to do dosage calculations to administer medications. It is so straight forward that I was able to pick it up and complete the practice questions without giving up like I used to do with math. I have a math test every semester, so I like to go back to the practice questions right before. It has helped me pass all my dosage tests.

The package arrived 3 days after I ordered it on a Saturday morning in PERFECT condition. It was wrapped tightly and the book is brand new just as described! I am absolutely thrilled, and want to thank the seller for exceeding my expectations! I am always a bit hesistant when I order things online, and hardly ever do because of all the horror stories of fraud going around. But I needed this book in a pinch, and it was overpriced and out of stock at the college bookstore so I turned to Amazon. Not only was it in perfect condiion AKA: Brand New; but it was at a lower and much more reasonable price then what the book store wanted. Great buy! And I would definitely use this vendor again!

excellent condition, easy-to-follow instructions

I ordered this book used to save a few dollars (in the end, I think I actually only saved $5... not sure why I even did that!) But it was being shipped by Amazon, and I was able to use my Prime 2-day shipping.
The book arrived RAPIDLY - I was thrilled! Really, less than 48 hours. I opened my door (to leave for class!) and there it was!!! YAY!
It may as well have been new - the condition was perfect.
While it's easy math, it's still important that the instructions are easy to follow, and these are. I'm really happy with the descriptions of how to solve simple to complex problems. Let's face it - we all learned it in grade school, but many of us nursing students haven't done math in a LONG time! (I'm noticing, in nursing school, that a lot of the other students are adult learners who are taking time to go back to school!)
Really thrilled with everything about this order - fantastic shipping time, packaged in typical Amazon packaging, like-new condition, saved a few bucks... what more could I ask for?!
There's also a DVD in the back for extra help with problems. I tested mine out first to make sure there was no damage due to the book being used. the DVD works great, and I'm going to use it for review. :)

Henry James (1843-1916) was an iconic figure of nineteenth century literature. Among his many masterpieces are The Portrait of a Lady, The Bostonians, The Europeans, The Golden Bowl, and Washington Square. As well as fiction, James produced several works of travel literature and biography, and was one of the great letter writers of any age. A contemporary and friend of Robert Louis Stevenson, Edith Wharton, and Joseph Conrad, James continues to exert a major influence on generations of novelists and writers.

I've just finished reading "The Turn Of The Screw" by Henry James, a nineteenth century classic novella which can be read on various different levels. I read the 2003 edition, "The Turn Of The Screw: Case Studies in Contemporary Criticism", which includes the "Complete, Authoritative Text with Biographical, Historical, and Cultural Contexts, Critical History, and Essays from Contemporary Critical Perspectives", edited by Peter Beidler - I enjoyed both Henry James' story, and this edition's analyses, immensely.

To begin with a short summary of the plot - set in the 1840s, written by James in 1897, and published in 1898 - a young woman is employed as governess to two children, Flora and Miles, by their absent uncle. She is to live at their magnificent country mansion, and is directed not to contact their uncle in London at all, but to take on all responsibility for their care. She learns that their previous governess died tragically, after falling pregnant to another 'lower' servant, who also died suddenly. And she begins to see apparitions of these two 'sinister' ghosts - written in the first-person, the reader sees the governess's viewpoint, ruminations and thoughts - the text draws the reader into her firm beliefs that these two ghosts are intent on 'grasping' and 'possessing' the two 'angelic' children. If you want to know more - I can recommend you read it.

Did James intend "The Turn Of The Screw" to be a simple ghost story? Should we presume that the ghosts, as we see them through the eyes of the governess, are real? Is this fictional world's reality truly as she sees it? Or, as analyses have suggested, are we in fact reading the story of a nineteenth century woman's psychological break-down in reaction to Victorian sexual repression? And did James intend to critique the rigid class system, and rigid gender roles, of Victorian England, as modern analyses further suggest?

A great edition for "The Turn of the Screw"

This anthology was put together in a way that gives the reader a great perspective of what motivated James to write a ghost story at the end of the 19th Century. The introduction to the story is comprehensive, the story is annotated well (however several annotations were incorrect), and the articles and theory explanations are well done and add depth to the understanding of James's story. If you are looking for a solid understanding of the time period and the motivation behind the story, this anthology is a great choice.

Incredible value, excellent resource

This is an excellent little book for anyone who wants a copy of The Turn of the Screw. For that alone it's reasonably priced, but it also has several very interesting essay regarding this literary classic. It's very insightful and it was perfect to use for my graduate level Literary Theory class and my research paper. For the price, I highly recommend it if you just want a nice copy of the book, need a scholarly source, or just want some interesting insights into James' ghost story.

VChurning Waters (Churning Waters Saga)very interesting read!! Little "Hunger Games" meets the "sea kingdom"! Story line flows well with very interesting characters!! Romance, love of family, intrigue, etc... First time author opens her heart for adventure and love of the ocean!! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance with lots of excitement!! Never boring!!! Wonderful job Meredith Taylor!!!

Paranormal romance and thriller combined

I picked this up because I went to the same grade school as the author (why lie?) As I got deeper into the book, I found myself unable to put it down. If you are a Twilight/Hunger Games type fan, this book is for you. It has a great YA love story mixed with the beauty of the South Carolina coast combined with "another world out there that we humans know nothing about." I finished this last night and felt sad that it was over. I can see this story shaping up to be a very interesting saga. It would make a great movie. I currently have many unanswered questions that I am sure are waiting to be addressed in the next books. I hope that Meredith is close to finishing book 2.

Good Resource, by not user friendly.

While this book is a good resource, it could be easier on the eyes. The publishers seemed to have forgotten that this book is looked at frequently during the work day. The print is to small to be easy on the eyes. The lines for following a codes specificity are distracting and eye fatiguing. 3 lines on every colum isn't nedded. I've been using this book for 6 weeks and it is still shedding paper dandruff. This book design could be a lot better.

Old 2016 guidelines!

As another reviewer mentioned, it doesn't have the 2017 updated guidelines. I don't understand why the AMA prints books before the guidelines are out. Why not wait until the guidelines are out and then publish the new year's edition? I don't ever want a book with outdated guidelines. Now I have to go to the AMA website to print updated guidelines, then take it with me to the certification testing center, IN ADDITION to all the other books needed to take the test. Pain in the butt inconvenient!
