Awesome read for all business folks!

This book is funny, full of ideas, and so dang true about the day to day life in cubicleland. I love how it's not for top executives per say but for the mid level managers/leaders who make so many important day to day decisions.
The analysis of several concepts would seem so easy, but like Dewett says, we still mess them up every day. This book has helped me realize how to handle so many situations already today at work. It's a great feeling to be able to think about real names and situations where his rules apply!
I love it, and I think I'm going to read it again - after I let one of my MBA buddies borrow it of course! :)
I would suggest it to all business folks living in cubicleland!

Surviving and Thriving in the Corporate World and Elsewhere

This is definitely a book that cube-dwellers, their bosses, their loved ones, and anyone else should read. It gives some very insightful (sometimes obvious but definitely useful) views about organizational behavior and the art of dealing with people. In any line of work, it's the people that can make or break an organization. This book provides some interesting (and unique) perspectives on how to best survive in the real world.
Dr. Dewett through his ironic descriptions calls out a number of tendencies that leaders sometimes rely upon and makes them ponder whether their actions and belief are actually beneficial or not. And he recommends things that at first glance may seem the opposite of most people's initial reaction to work issues.
I liked the fact that this book is not targeted specifically at the CEO rank (although I believe it would be very beneficial to them as well) but at the remainder of the organization that has the ability to lead and influence, managers and subordinates alike. The irreverent discussions may be a burr to those who prefer an organization of strict hierarchal power, but they come with basic truths that are useful to anyone.
The book is a very easy read, a very good read, and one I would recommend to anyone entering a business school or into the "real world"...

Prime-Time Primer

"The Little Black Book of Leadership" concentrates on the fundamentals of leadership. Author, Todd Dewett, covers a wide array of topics - from personal skills like time management to team building, conflict resolution, and developing team members. It is a series of straightforward, practical tips for leading successfully.
Dewett unveils a leadership oath at the start of the book that encapsulates the meaning and purpose of a leader. It sets the tone for the entire book, and it alone is worth the purchase price. Oh, if only more leaders took the oath and adhered to it!
The author has a refreshingly casual and blunt style which makes for a quick and enjoyable read. He quickly nullifies the leader vs. manager debate and blows away other myths. He also introduces some fun tidbits like his definition for BLAME - an acronym meaning Barely Legitimate Almost Meaningless Excuse. He reserves a chapter to describe his leadership rules: Reduce Ambiguity, Be Fair, and Stay Positive. Lots of good stuff!
"The Little Black Book of Leadership" is filled with valuable advice. It is a fine resource for both aspiring and seasoned leaders.
