Please write more of this series! There are so many things that I want to know about!. I wondered why they didn't take a cow of each sex even if they were calves no matter how crammed that van was or opt for the 3rd van to charge. Did the poppies arrive intact to be used for medicine? Are they going to send Wisp and Nick to get the other brother? Will Nick meet and fall in love ever as he seems young enough and they want to have babies being born so it seems fitting that a rescue at some point will have the right damsel in distress. Will they find an abandoned library to get books from? This is a wonder in all post apocalyptic books that I have. Why don't they break into a library for books on medical training, farming, survival skills, the classics and teaching the children? What about the bad area they avoided on the way back after finding it on the way to find Nick.?

And I would love to see a map or two. Maybe done up as Angus writing it but a layout of the new land as they know it with settlements marked and one of the facility itself. Just a thought. I have stayed up late reading this after the first one and now I have to wait and hope for more!

The sad part of ebooks is the inability to get my book's signed by authors, but without it I probably would have never found your books. Please write more in the series and maybe that prequel suggestion I thought would be great as well.

Love this series!!!

Book 1 and 2 are really good. I am very excited to read the next book!! I love these characters and the biobots, especially Wisp. Now we were introduced to a few of his brothers and it just enhances the story. I can feel these people emotions and even visualize the scenario the author has described. A great job. I won't take a star away because of it but to have to wait a full YEAR for the 3rd installment is really depressing.

A beautifully crafted story about American Survivors.

Every day I get emails with free eBook offers. Many of them are free for a reason: weak story, characters, or dialog, badly written, and sometimes not worth finishing. But sometimes you get really, really lucky.

That's how I feel about the Changed World series. I got Book 1 for free, and read it compulsively in one day (and much of one night). The moment I finished book 1, I purchased book 2. I've just finished that one and I'm so disappointed to find that book 3 isn't expected until fall.

I prefer to write reviews that give little story information. I'll just say that this is one of the best post-crisis stories that I've lucked into in a long time. Great narrative, premise, characters, and language. Professional quality writing all around. I especially like the start of each chapter, each time an excerpt from a gathered history, from survivors, of the struggle to keep civilization going after ten years of The Flu.

I've read so much in this genre and I don't feel motivated to write reviews that often. I give the Changed World an unreserved five stars. I plan to recommend it to lots of my friends.

About the Author

Deborah Phillips has been teaching English for over twenty-five years with an emphasis on test preparation and academic skills preparation. This Book Needs A Warning Label

Although the Longman iBT TOEFL preparation book is generally well done, its main feature is one of the most deceptive sales practices I have ever seen in a textbook.

When you buy the book,it comes with a well done CD-ROM (although it was defective in two out of five of my student's book packages) and notes rather casually on Page xiii: "The recording program that can be purchased to accompany this book includes all the recorded materials from the Listening, Writing and Speaking sections and the Mini-Tests and Complete Tests."

In Clearspeak: In order for the textbook to be used in three of the four exam sections (Reading excepted), you have to buy a set of eight Audio CDs or cassettes which cost more than the book/ CD-ROM combo! In other words, when purchased, the book is essentially useless (The CD-ROM has separate material and can be used as a stand-alone,)

In Switzerland, we pay $75.00 for the book and then have to pay another $86.00 to use it! I cite Longman in my business English classes as a perfect example of odious business practice. I and my students were outraged when we discovered this little game.

don't buy it

It's a waste of money and time. You can only use the reading section of the book. For the listening part, for example, the book contains only the questions, but not the conversations related to them, so the questions are not usable. To use the other sections in the book, you need another audio series which is NOT available in the market. Also the audio series you need is NOT mentioned buy the publisher. They give a cd with the book but it doesn't match with any section in the book, so many sections in the book are not usable. I tried to contact the publisher but they didn't even respond. As a result, this book is waste of money.

About the Author

Michael S. Lewis-Beck is F. Wendell Miller Distinguished Professor of Political Science at the University of Iowa, and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.  His interests are comparative elections, election forecasting, political economy, and quantitative methodology.  He has been designated the 4th most cited political scientist since 1940, in the field of methodology. Professor Lewis-Beck has authored or co-authored over 240 articles and books, including Applied Regression: An Introduction, Data Analysis: An Introduction, Economics and Elections: The Major Western Democracies, Forecasting Elections, The American Voter Revisited and French Presidential Elections.  He has served as an Editor of the American Journal of Political Science, the Sage QASS series (the green monographs) in quantitative methods and The Sage Encyclopedia of Social Science Research Methods.  Currently he is Associate Editor of International Journal of Forecasting and Associate Editor of French Politics.  In spring 2012, he held the position of Paul Lazersfeld University Professor at the University of Vienna. During the fall of 2012, he was Visiting Professor at Center for Citizenship and Democracy, University of Leuven (KU Leuven), Belgium.  In spring 2013, Professor Lewis-Beck was Visiting Scholar, Centennial Center, American Political Science Association, Washington, D.C.  During fall 2013, he served as Visiting Professor, Faculty of Law and Political Science, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain. In spring, 2014, he was Visiting Scholar, Department of Political Science, University of Göteborg, Sweden.  For fall, 2014, he served as a Visiting Professor at LUISS University, Rome.  At present, he is co-authoring a book on how Latin Americans vote.

A Textbook that's Not a Rip-off

In 1980, Michael Lewis-Beck published Applied Regression: An Introduction, a remarkably succinct, informative, and above all accessible introduction to regression analysis. I used it selectively as ancillary reading in courses I taught in basic statistics, quantitative research methods, and multiple regression. Students loved it. Finally, a statistics text they could use to help them with material they didn't understand in class or that was not clearly explained in their other readings!

Unbeknownst to me, the same author later published another Sage paperback titled Data Analysis: An Introduction. I became aware of this 1995 text only recently, and, after reading it, I realized that the last fifteen of the twenty-three years I taught basic statisitcs before retiring in 2010 would have been much easier for me and much more useful for beginning students if I had learned of the book when it first appeared.

As with Lewis-Beck's Applied Regression text, Data Analysis is a tribute to the author's ability to write both succinctly and accessibly about counter-intuitive material that students commonly dread. No reason for dread here, however, because once again Lewis-Beck has written a text that is really useful for beginners who want to use it as supplementary reading for a course or -- wonder of wonders! -- a self-teaching tool. I had long been convinced that the latter objective, producing a reasonably thorough introduction to basic statistics that would serve the interests of those who wanted to teach themselves but who lacked a good deal of mathematical aptitude, was something that would never be written. Lewis-Beck, however, proved me wrong, and he did it in less than eighty pages.

If his text has limitations they are manifest in its peculiarly sociologically orientation, meaning that an obligatory introduction to elementary probability theory is not included, and one-way analysis of variance, a tool that is used and misused much too often in some behavioral science disciplines, is not introduced.

However, there is much more thorough coverage of regression analysis than is included in all but a few introductory texts. Also, simpler techniques, such as the ubiquitous t test and non-parametric measures of association, including those based on Chi-square, are given their due. Lewis-Beck, however, realizes statistics starts to get interesting when analysts begin applying multiple regression. By the time the reader has worked through the first forty pages of Data Analysis, he or she is ready to make a first foray into material that most instructors save for a second course. If Lewis-Beck's earlier book, Applied Regression, were read as a sequel to Data Analysis, a student could honestly and confidently claim to be pretty well on the way to being a reasonably capable social science statistician.

Textbook publishing is a notorious racket. But Lewis-Beck's inexpensive and masterfully written Data Analysis: An Introduction provides a welcome reprieve from the usual rip-off routine.

Useful Tool For Your Research Toolbox

A great tool is one you use often. An invaluable tool is one you use often and never lend to anyone else and you would slap their hand if they even thought about reaching for it. Anyone even thinks about attempting to borrow my copy of this resource and they will draw back a nub! This booklet has proved to be my "go to" handy reference guide for my own research. If you don't have this one on your personal reference shelf you are missing out.

Data Analysis; An Introduction

An excellent primer for basic data analysis. It starts at the beginning of data gathering and discusses basic application of analysis; to include univariate statistics, measures of association, significance testing, simple and multiple regression.

I need a reference source to brush the dust off of my college statistics for a project, this book fit the bill for what I required and would recommend it for others. It is not a complex text, rather a booklet which helped me recall the basics of data analysis.

small town big city crime

I couldn't wait to read this book ,not just because I got a advanced readers copy for free,in exchange for an honest review...but because this book was done in a different way of writing. This story was written by 2 authors together,and I had my doubts if it would work...well guess what? This story caught my attention from the very first pages,talking about "the incident" as the couple are driving to a new city,to start their lives over again,... This set the tone for the rest of the story. Annabeth and Marcus relocate to a small town in Texas thinking that small towns were quiet little places,where nothing exciting ever happens...but soon learn that even small towns can hold big secrets and have big city crimes...as they appear to be a normal happy couple on the outside,things take a turn for the scary surprising adventure...but can this couple handle it? Can they learn from their past mistakes,and can they recover and survive as they are falling deeper into the mystery ??? The ending has such a cliffhanger,leaving you feel so drained from the excitement of reading that you, as I, could not put the book down!!!!!! So can't wait for book 2 so I can continue the adventure.

Storm, Hodge, & a Tiny Taste of Texas---Perfect!

Walker Texas Wife is a quick read with just the right mix of intrigue and fun. I was impressed with the characters and how distinct their personalities were. As the mystery unfolds, so do the layers of their lives. And woven into all of that is a tiny taste of Texas. Storm and Hodge are a perfect blend. They have carefully presented several important topics in the process of telling the story. They made me laugh. They made me cry. They left me satisfied and hungry for more. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I hope they write another series together after this one.

I received a free e-copy of WTW in exchange for an honest review. Honestly, I had already pre-ordered the book, so I would have read it and left a review anyway. I truly enjoyed this book.

Great New Series!!!

First, I would like to thank both Melissa Storm and K.M. Hodge for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Melissa Storm has done it again and brought her readers a new great series!! However, this time she has a new partner and crime helping her out! K.M Hodge and Melissa Storm make an amazing team on this book! Walker Texas Wife is the first book in the Book Cellar Mysteries. If the rest of the series is as good as their debut novel-I will a very happy girlie!

Each character brings something unique and different to the story line. You either love or annoyed by the character (for me that would be Brooke). However, each of them is very likeable and has their own story to tell.

This book has a little bit of everything from mystery, lots comical lines, very nosey neighbors, betrayal, new neighbors, infertility, temptation of a past love, secrets, etc.

Public Infrastructure Management

This book provides a helpful tool in trying to understand how the public infrastructure works for us. It stresses how important organization of information is when dealing with a system this large with many integral pieces. Without public infrastructure in this day and age, where would we be? As an example, we often take our roadways for granted. But we never stop to think about how much work is involved in maintaing them, the volume of materials needed, and where the funding comes from. Without coordination and a strong infrastructure management database system, upkeep of important public infrastructure on a daily basis would never be possible. This book put an interesting perspective on how the puzzle is put together.

The same book is the being used as primary reference book in the current year in a construction oriented college in India.
